Motivation Monday: How to Turn Failures into Success Stories

Six years ago, I failed. I failed my life plan. At 18, I had it all figured out. Graduate with a Bachelors degree in politics, followed by a J.D. in law, which would lead me to my career as an American Ambassador.

Fast forward a couple of years, in the heat of law school, I found myself very depressed, unmotivated and growing a strong relationship with food.

Once I hit +50 lbs on the scale, I opened up my eyes and realized law and a career in politics were not right for me. Without hesitation, I packed my things and decided not to return the following year.  

I took the next couple of months to find myself and think my next plan through. I took my personal situation and realized I wanted to learn from it.

I signed up for graduate school where I earned my masters in Psychology specializing in eating behaviors along with a certification in weight loss and personal training.

Today, I am CEO of my own health and wellness company, coaching women through their relationships with food while balancing time for sessions in the gym; Neat Mind & Body is reaching its 3rd successful year. And I am forever grateful for my year and a half in law school and the 'failure' I experienced.

So, the big question is: how do you turn your failures into success stories? 

1. Own it & Accept it

Accept that things may not have gone as planned. Take a look at what happened and understand that it is okay to let it go and move on.

Try saying these mantras out loud:

“This didn’t work out and it’s okay.”
“Failure is ok.”
“This wasn’t the right plan, there is something better out there.”
“Something bigger and better is awaiting my future.”

The moment you are able to accept the situation is the moment you open yourself up for bigger and better opportunities.

2. Grow From It

Have your ‘Eat, Pray, Love' moment. Take this time to learn more about who you are and what you want from life. Be sure to take your time during this process of growth, do not rush it! The only way to build a stronger, better you is to

For starters, try shadowing your friends at their jobs, taking on new hobbies that make you feel uncomfortable or taking a vacation away from it all

3. Revisit What Went Wrong

Take a day or two to sit down and outline what you believe went wrong and make sure you are honest with yourself. Make improvements by looking back and fixing what went wrong.

4. Pivot and Redefine

There will be times when new opportunities present themselves, be available to them and don't say 'no'. You never know where your new niche will come from and sometimes you find out you have a hidden talent you never knew about. This is when you can become creative and approach life situations from a new angle or perspective.

5. Go Confidently

Envision success! Be strong and remember you can get back up after a fall! With that in mind, you can go forward with the confidence that nothing can get in your way of true success.

As you embark in this new chapter:

• Set goals for yourself
• Put together a dream board of the next 5 years
• Revisit that outline of where you went wrong in the past
• And remind yourself every day that you are a BOSS!
